Meet Agronomy Intern Ryan Stoll

Ryan Stoll from Granville, Iowa will be a junior this fall at Morningside College.

Q:  Tell a little bit of how you became interested and your experience in agriculture.

A:  I grew up on the farm and have always wanted to farm.  My plan is to return home to the farm and farm with my family.

Q:  What have been some of your experiences and responsibilities with this internship?

A:  I’ve been able to do crop scouting, handle chemicals, maintenance of equipment and facilities, and a little bit of everything around the FCA Granville location.

Q:  How would you describe your internship experience to another student? Why would you recommend this internship to another student?

A:  It was a great learning experience for me!  Anyone interested in agronomy – this is the internship for you!

Q:  What qualities does this internship require?

A:  Communication and being open to learning new things!  There are many aspects to learn and a lot of behind the scenes activities that go on!

Q:  Describe how your mentors or supervisor influenced your internship experience.

A:  I was fortunate that I got to work with 4 agronomists.  Mike Horkey, Brandon Fischer, Ryan Freese and Tyler Dykstra were kind enough to spend time teaching me many different areas of the fertilizer, chemicals and seed in our territory.

Q:  What is your favorite memory from your internship?

A:  Getting to work with the airplanes doing fungicides!  Very interesting to learn about spraying fields with a airplane.

Q:  What have you learned during this internship and how will this benefit you in your future?

A:  I’ve learned how to crop scout for weeds and bugs.  When I come back to the farm – I’ll be able to use this to help make good decisions on the family farm.
