LARRABEE
 The
Larrabee branch of First Cooperative Association has 11 full-time
employees, including the grain department and feed department.
In 1989, Farmers Coop of Larrabee merged with Cleghorn, Cherokee
and Marcus, to form First Farmers Coop. During the First Farmers
era, to improve the speed of grain receiving at harvest time,
First Farmers placed a 5,000 bushel Friesen bin to utilize another
dump for soybeans. This allowed us to be able to truck soybeans
out during harvest without interfering with producers dumping
of soybeans.
First Farmers Coop also put in a new truck scale and closed
the fertilizer plant and turned it into soybean flat storage,
which made 45,000 bushels extra storage.
On March 1, 1997, First Farmers Coop merged with First Cooperative
Association. This merger gave us the opportunity to build more
storage at Larrabee. We built a 365,000 bushel steel bin for
corn storage. Along with the bin construction, we added another
receiving pit and leg, at 10,000 bu. per hour.
In the spring of 1999, First Coop constructed two more steel
bins for corn storage, one 365,000 bushel bin and one 490,000
bushel bin. We also increased the West receiving leg to 7,000
bushels per hour. We brought in a Zimmerman dryer from Marathon
to increase drying from 900 bushels per hour to 2,000 bushels
per hour.
The 3 steel bins equal 1.2 million bushels of storage
Total corn storage equals 1.28 million bushels
Total soybean storage equals 245,000 bushels, for a grand total
of 1.5 million bushels storage.
Larrabee also operates the new feed mill that ties in with the
new grain storage. Startup date was April 1,1999, the feed mill
is currently averaging 10,000 bu. corn per day, and is currently
producing 400 ton of feed per day.
To date the feed mill has ground 3.5 million bushels of corn.
The feed is delivered by three 24 ton semi’s and two 18 ton
tandem trucks, we also utilize 9 ton feed trucks to get feed
delivered in a timely matter.
