CLEGHORN
The
Cleghorn branch of First Cooperative Association merged with
Cherokee in 1949. Then in 1989, Cleghorn and Cherokee merged
with Marcus and Larrabee to form First Farmers Cooperative.
First Farmers Cooperative purchased Fredrickson Grain at Meriden
in 1990.
The main cement house was built in 1967, the annex was built
in 1974, and the west silos were built in 1980. In 2005 two steel storage bins were built, each housing a capacity of 380,000 bushels. That same year we added a 4,000 bushel per hour grain dryer. We also have an outside bunker at the east end of the property that includes 250,000 bushels. That brings our total grain storage to 1,780,000 bushels. A new 80 foot by 20 foot above ground scale was added in the summer of 2007. We dispatch four grain semis out of the Cleghorn location. The majority of our soybeans are trucked to AGP at Sheldon or Sioux City and Aurelia to be put on a train. The corn is trucked to the local Ethanol plants or put on a train at Aurelia.
The old fertilizer plant was built in 1978. The new addition was built in 1995. With the addition we updated the fertilizer blender and load out system. In that same year we also put in a new chemical and 28% containment area. In the summer of 2008 we replaced three steel 100 ton 28% storage tanks with two new 150 ton fiberglass storage tanks. The total storage capacity for dry fertilizer is 5,000 floaters, and two post sprayers, one of which is used for care of the needs for Marcus, Meriden, Larrabee, and Cherokee area.
