The
Alta Branch of First Cooperative Association has 11 full-time
employees.
Services offered are bagged feed, liquid protein, grain receiving,
drying, storage and rail loadout. We have fertilizer (dry and
28%) and custom application of pesticides and fertilizer, cardtrol
pump, refined fuel delivery, and propane delivery.
Licensed grain storage is
1 million bushels, of which 300,000 bushels are rented flat. Dry
fertilizer storage is 2,000 tons, and 28% storage of 475 tons.
Alta is a 25-car shipper. Agronomy application equipment includes
2 air spreaders, 2 liquid floaters and 1 post sprayer.
Alta started operations as a stock company in 1902. In 1949, Alta
became the Alta Coop Elevator. In 1974, with the merger of the
Schaller Coop, the company became known as Agland Cooperative.
In 1987, Truesdale merged with Agland.
The 2 west grain storage tanks were added in 1971. The fertilizer
plant was built in 1975. The old grain flat was converted to the
current tire shop location in 1989.
In April 1999, the employees of First Cooperative Association,
under the supervision of First Cooperative Association’s maintenance
supervisor, Willie Willems, updated the Ranco fertilizer system.
By relocating and adding bin capacity, the improvements increased
the blender capacity by 1/3 and the loading efficiency by 35%.
In June 1999, Lemar Industries started a major renovation of our
bean dump and headhouse. When completed, bean dump capacity will
be increased from 2,800 to 7,000 bushel per hour. Improvements
being made to the main house include new distributors, grain cleaners
and spouting. We will also be increasing leg capacity from 5,000
to 7,000 bushel per hour on our main leg.
